Research in the field of surface geochemistry is conducted for 45 years in various versions and methodical variants. Currently surface geochemical research is widely-used, and implemented in different geological units of the country, in areas that are different physiographically, geographically and topographically.
The research is carried out in two respects:
1) Prospective:
- determination of subsurface hydrocarbon accumulations,
- determination of the directions of migration (penetration) of hydrocarbon from subsurface accumulations to the surface,
- assessment of the relative composition of accumulation, and its relative depth,
- mapping of tectonic discontinuities,
- testing structures appointed by seismic methods for identification of subsurface hydrocarbon accumulation and their prospective prioritize
2) Environmental:
- evaluation of tightness of boreholes,
- evaluation of the volume of methane and carbon dioxide flux released into the atmosphere,
- monitoring of underground gas storage facilities,
- tightness testing of underground infrastructure for transmission of natural gas and crude oil,
- control and monitoring of municipal and industrial landfills,
- evaluation of contamination of soil-water environment with petroleum compounds.
